Is packing a lunch still considered nerdy?

In elementary school you might as well trip and fall head first into the garbage can before you "brought your lunch" to school. At least that is how it was for me. It was always such a great surprise when my Mom would hand me some money when she dropped us off at school because I got to BUY LUNCH. That was on rare occasion though. But I could always count on my birthday to get to go into the cafeteria with hands free from a nerdy lunch pale and say "oh yeah friends, you go ahead. i'm going to get in line to BUY my lunch." I guess at that age you're not really sure what the heck you're eating anyway so everything tastes great to you.

Junior high is still pretty nerdy to bring your lunch because at that age the cool people just lived off the vending machines. But every once in a while you got that 'praise' for being fortunate to have a packed lunch because you actually had food to eat. I still remember Marcus Berry (name changed. since my blog is so popular and someone will know him if i say the real name? HA) coming up to me out of nowhere and taking some nice advantage of me-but really just admiring my swiss roll until I gave him half.

Question is, what is the social standing in college? Of course Patricia Beta will make fun of me when I responded to his lunch invite with "nah, I brought my lunch today." That's a given. But why am I getting looks in the Hall of Flags when I pull out my delicious Pastrami sandwich? Do you want to laugh at me? Or are you jealous?
